Flexible E-Paper Displays offer an exciting advancement in classic E-Ink technology, opening new possibilities in product design. Unlike conventional E-Paper modules, which are typically based on a rigid glass substrate, flexible variants utilize thin plastic substrates such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or PEN (polyethylene naphthalate). Furthermore, the backplane – the control layer behind the actual display – in flexible modules is not made of glass but often consists of FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) or plastic-based oxide semiconductors. This construction not only makes the modules flexible but also significantly more robust against mechanical stress.
Applications for Flexible E-Paper
Due to their high flexibility, these E-paper displays can be integrated into curved surfaces, cylindrical enclosures, or even moving components – for instance, in smart labels, electronic wristbands, medical patches, packaging with integrated displays, flexible sensor readouts, or wearables. The inherent advantages of E-Ink technology – such as bistable imaging, low power consumption, and reflective, eye-friendly displays – are fully preserved.
We offer flexible E-paper modules in various sizes and configurations, available as both standard solutions and custom designs. The illustrated example showcases a particularly compact, flexible segment module with ten digits and a battery indicator, ideally suited for integration into portable or miniaturized applications.
