In the second part of our overview, we introduce additional prominent TFT panel manufacturers specializing in small to medium display diagonals. The focus is on AUO, Innolux, Tianma, Mantix, and Laibao. These manufacturers are capable of meeting requirements across industrial, automotive, and medical technology sectors.
Manufacturers such as CSOT, IVO, or LG Display are not considered in this section, as they primarily produce large-format panels for TVs and smartphones. Furthermore, renowned manufacturers Sharp and Japan Display Inc. (JDI) are not discussed in detail here:
While Sharp possesses its own TFT cell manufacturing and a robust technological foundation, it is increasingly focusing on integrated display solutions for its own group and applications requiring larger diagonals.
JDI primarily operates in niche markets such as defense and automotive OEMs and is rarely available for open industrial designs. Furthermore, financial restructurings have led to a reduction in cell manufacturing capacities.
AUO (AU Optronics Corporation)
AUO is a Taiwanese TFT panel manufacturer headquartered in Hsinchu and has been among the world's leading producers of TFT-LCD cells for many years. The company operates an extensive network of TFT production lines, including several Gen-3.5, Gen-4, Gen-5, Gen-6, and Gen-7.5 fabs. In total, AUO currently possesses over ten active TFT lines, enabling high flexibility in terms of format diversity, panel technology, and volume production. Additionally, a hybrid Gen-7.5/8.5 line is planned, designed to cover both classic LCDs and new display technologies.
AUO serves a broad spectrum of applications, from notebook displays, automotive panels, and industrial displays to commercial monitor solutions. AUO has particularly established itself in the industrial sector for medium-sized diagonals, high resolution, wide viewing angles, and long-term availability. Touchscreen variants, high brightness, and extended temperature ranges are also available.
Recently, AUO has pursued a targeted modernization of its older LCD fabs to enable their use for Micro-LED technologies. Concurrently, individual Gen-5 lines have already been consolidated to streamline the manufacturing structure. Despite these strategic adjustments, AUO remains a key provider of TFT cells with a global reach and a strong presence in the industrial market.
Innolux Corporation
Innolux is a Taiwanese manufacturer headquartered in Zhunan and ranks among the world's largest producers of TFT-LCD cells. The company operates one of the industry's most comprehensive manufacturing infrastructures, with a total of 14 proprietary TFT lines covering nearly all manufacturing generations – from Gen 3.5 to Gen 8.6. This structure allows for flexible production of diverse panel sizes and technologies, catering to both high-volume and specialized applications.
Innolux serves a variety of markets, including notebooks, automotive, medical technology, and industrial electronics. Particularly for medium-sized TFT cells in the 7 to 15-inch range, the company offers a wide selection with options such as high brightness, extended temperature ranges, touch integration, and customized control.
Despite specific structural adjustments – such as the reduction of individual older production lines – Innolux remains a key provider in the TFT sector. The company distinguishes itself through extensive manufacturing depth, broad design variety, and consistent quality, making it a sought-after partner for professional applications.
Tianma Microelectronics
Tianma is a leading TFT cell manufacturer from China, headquartered in Shenzhen, operating several TFT production lines, including Gen-4.5, Gen-5, and Gen-6 fabs. The company specializes in small to medium-sized display formats, typically ranging from 1.5 to 10 inches, and primarily serves the industrial, automotive, medical technology, and mobile device sectors.
Technologically, Tianma relies on a-Si-TFT and increasingly on LTPS and AMOLED technologies, combined with high resolution, good brightness, wide viewing angle stability (IPS/ADS), and touch integration. The displays are generally also designed for use in extended temperature ranges.
A particularly important aspect of Tianma is its distribution structure: Tianma does not sell TFT cells directly as raw materials but exclusively through its own module platforms or in cooperation with certified distributors. This means that customers typically receive only pre-configured display modules – with pre-attached backlighting, controller board, or touch panel.
Mantix Display Technology
Mantix is a comparatively young TFT panel manufacturer from China, headquartered in Putian (Fujian), founded in 2015. Technologically, the company is based on a Gen-6 a-Si TFT production line, which was acquired from the former manufacturer CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes). This line offers modern manufacturing capabilities for small to medium-sized LCD panels, focusing on formats between 7 and 13 inches.
Initially, Mantix primarily manufactured high-volume TFT displays for television applications. However, in recent years, the company has undergone a strategic reorientation, increasingly focusing on industrial and automotive applications, including tablets, HMI displays, notebooks, and custom panels.
Mantix thus emerges as a new entrant in the professional TFT market, positioning itself against established suppliers such as BOE, AUO, and Tianma. Leveraging its modern Gen-6 manufacturing capabilities, the company can address requirements for high resolution, superior contrast, stable driving, and touch integration. A key highlight is its ability to deliver both medium-volume production and project-specific small series.
Laibao Hi-Tech (Laibao)
Laibao is a Chinese TFT cell manufacturer based in Shenzhen, specializing for many years in industrial and medical technology applications. In contrast to large-scale mass producers, Laibao operates a single TFT production line, deliberately focusing on small to medium display formats, particularly within the 2 to 10-inch range.
The company is renowned for cells exhibiting robust electrical performance, excellent contrast ratios, extended temperature resilience, and high brightness. Typical applications encompass HMI systems, medical displays, laboratory equipment, and industrial devices, where long-term availability, stable driving, and EMC-compliant design are paramount.
A distinct advantage of Laibao is its capability to accommodate relatively low minimum order quantities, similar to GP (Giant Plus). This renders the manufacturer particularly appealing for projects involving smaller production runs, custom adaptations, or extended development cycles. Touch integration and various interface standards (RGB, LVDS, SPI) are also available.
